We are proud to announce that Igor Eškinja was awarded with first prize at the T-HT@msu.hr, taking place at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Zagreb.
Igor Eškinja's work featured on this show is the installation Architecture of Optimism (2016). The work is based on visual material made in urban settlements built in Rijeka during the 1970s and in the Parisian suburb Vitry Sur Seine. Both urban zones are actually representative of high modernism, massive dormitories – one where the population is growing continually smaller, and another, which remains vital and alive. A large curtain depicts Rijeka skyscrapers photographed during the dead of the night, when not a single light is on. Contrary to that, the windows of similar buildings from Vitry are lit and they form light drawings on the photographs. Between these similar, yet dissimilar photos, we can see tables with empty newspapers (Novi list). The sun has left its traces on the newspapers, suggesting a mixture of Rijeka's urban vedute with family names, multiethnic inhabitans of Parisian suburbs.
